What is the Problem?
I see many CVs that clients have written themselves. Only about 1% of them are of equivalent quality to what a professional CV writer would deliver. Don’t fall into that category, professional help with your CV or resume will get you interviews.
Firstly, most CVs or resumes I see are just a work history. They don’t have a skill set or if they do, it’s inadequate.
Secondly, most CVs and resumes are incredibly long. The record is 16 pages! A recruiter just doesn’t have the time for that and my client was getting no response to his 16 page CV.
Thirdly, people get achievements confused with responsibilities. An achievement, particularly at the senior level, must be quantifiable and provable to give you credibility.
Fourthly, many CVs and resumes are poorly formatted, even if the client is using an online template.
Finally, people writing their own CV, almost without exception, fail to sell themselves adequately.
A Professional CV Writer is the best Solution.
Getting your CV or resume professionally written will solve most of these problems. Here is a tip though; if the professional doesn’t interview you face-to-face or at least over the phone, the challenges above are likely to remain.
Another reason you should use a professional CV or resume service is that most Kiwis, including some of the very best sales people, are just too humble to sell themselves. A professional should draw out of you your key selling points and then package them into a compelling CV or resume that meets the needs of your targeted role.
A professional CV and resume writer will assist you to identify meaningful and quality achievements. I call these “the icing on the cake”; they really separate you from the rest of the applicants.
In summary, many of my clients have a “brain freeze” when they are trying to write their own CV and the time, energy and angst finally drives them to seek professional help. They usually wish they had got professional help much earlier.
